THE OLD BAR GALLERY: BLONDE PLEASURE ECONOMY SALE - SAGAN EXHIBITION OPENING w/ CRYPTID + DEJECTOR

I am a commodity. This is a Sagan sale with wholesale prices. Every ounce of dignity must go!

You want a piece of me? I’ll give you a price. I am NOT reclaiming my body, I am relinquishing myself to my fate.

Choose which version of me you’d like to experience. I don’t make any art. I have never in my life made any art. I can’t understand art because I am a literalist. I am a literalist and this is the logical conclusion of society’s treatment of me. You cannot purchase art, you can purchase merchandise. You can purchase a piece of me.

You project your ideas of me and I rise to create what you need me to be. Who am I anymore?

Which Sagan is the real one? You decide.

My influences are the blurred lines between selling my time and company for cash and how I leverage myself in relationships (with little financial return). I’m drawing a clear line now on how others can have access to me.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY EVE: SLIM JEFFRIES + BIFF + KAI CULT + POLITE SKELETONS

This could be your last chance to see Slimmos, the roach of Melbourne's pub rock scene that has refused to die for the last 11 years. For over a decade the band has stuck it out through thick and thin but all good things must come to an indefinite hiatus at one point or another. Lead singer Hugo is moving to the UK and that means for the time being the thunderous riffs of Slim Jeffries will no longer be ringing out onto the streets of Melbourne's inner north. It's been a huge journey and the only way to cap off a huge journey is with a huge celebration. Come down to the Oldy for a midweek blowout on the eve of a public holiday. Kai Cult, BIFF and Polite Skeletons will be joining the bill for a night of mayhem. $15 presale, $20 on the door.

ROBOTS IN LOVE (NZ) + PALLIATIVE + SUBURBAN SPELL

Catch New Zealand's ROBOTS IN LOVE before they return to the land of the long white cloud!

ROBOTS IN LOVE - Robots in Love infuse intense emotion into electronic music. Their unique sound combines heavy guitar and drums with layers of synths and sub-bass and melodic vocals from Elenor Rayner (Sobriquet, The Crystalline Effect). Elenor will be joined on the night by guitarist Mik Thornley and Carlos on drums.

https://open.spotify.com/artist/0MyOG7EvRVbimlEvzLTeJG

Supporting them on the night are:

SUBURBAN SPELL - Suburban Spell combines austere 80’s new wave sensibilities, driving rhythms, and some noisy shoe gaze grind. Influenced by the heyday of new wave and ’70’s-’80’s electronica, this music carries the imprints of Ultravox, OMD, Visage, Jean-Michel Jarre, Gary Numan, and New Order. Suburban Spell is the project of Peter Endall playing keys and taking on lead vocal’s, joined live with Johnny B on guitar and Jack on bass. Despite its breezy, ethereal dance nature, the lyrics delve into the complex nature of human belief systems, religious or otherwise and they employ stark, dystopian minimalism to explore the frailty hidden behind the suburban ideal’s pristine veneer.

https://open.spotify.com/artist/7vbdKqJ1S2dKJmxdLgHlnV...

PALLIATIVE - The darkwave/synthpop bastard son of The Sisters of Mercy & VNV Nation, bringing songs of death, dying, loss and grief.

COLOSTOMY BAGUETTE?
(GOREGRINDING POWER ELECTRONICS)

Colostomy Baguette? formed fifteen years ago by two old high school friends hoping to find the most aggressively straightforward way of making goregrind without the usual tools required for such a trade. Soon enough, things got much slower, they took a detour to simultaneously co-found Religious Observance, and then spent the next few years in a wilfully funereal space, incorporating soundscapes carved by a new London-based member and also carried the fading torch of another new member (who is now sadly departed). Having spent the better part of the last half decade in hiding, they’re now dusting off the cobwebs and stripping back the rig to add more rotten petrol to the harsh power electronics they’re known for.

EGGY + BAD BANGS + PROGRAM

Combining forces across two special nights at Naarm’s legendary Old Bar, EGGY and Bad Bangs are teaming up to celebrate their latest releases with double surprise launch shows.

Running hot off their latest single 'Contest', Bad Bangs are back - offering a second course with forthcoming single 'Sympathy'. The oddball, angular pop track Sympathy humours the retrospect and delusion around a mild flirtation. Tongue in cheek lyrics and jarring rhythm makes for an unexpected turn on Bad Bangs rollicking train of garage rock. Toot toot next stop the Old Bar - all aboard

Kicking into a new cinematic gear, EGGY have just shared ‘Open Field’.

Written and intended as a three part odyssey, these seven minutes and fifty one seconds traverse through the sounds of a band who keep conviction as their touchstone. Taking notes from the Düsseldorf and Berlin schools of the 70’s, these drifting melodies and mechanistic rhythms hold court alongside the climactic intensity of a group forged by the 00’s New York underground.

Self-releasing and distributing the track across a limited 7”, Open Field will be available for purchase at these shows.

Two nights, two bands, one (old) bar. Unmissable.

Tickets are $10 for the first 24 hrs, then $15, then $20 on the door.
