Live At The Old Bar

“You could hear a pin drop for the entire set, as Cash had the crowd in the palm of her hand for over an hour” (Scenestr, 2024)

Cash Savage returns to her spiritual homeland The Old bar for a one off intimate solo show before heading to Europe.

Hand-picking songs from her 15-year back catalogue, Savage, alone with a guitar, will reveal original versions of the songs usually belted out by 7-piece band Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, one of the most revered live acts in Australia today.

A magnetic performer and one of Australia’s greatest songwriters, Savage delivers hard truths about love, relationships, political disorder, and the chaos of the human mind, with a sense of humour and connection that captures crowds to the very last line.

Prepare for a cathartic, communal experience that refuses to give the audience an easy ethical bypass, but challenges listeners to ask themselves the hard questions and step up.

This is a performance not to be missed.

Cash Savage & The Last Drinks

‘One of the most powerful bands in the country… you won’t hear much that’s better than this’

The Guardian

‘A fucking spectacular live phenomenon’

FREE ENTRY ARVO SHOW w/ COLD IRONS BOUND + THE PECCADILLOS

CIB & Peccs back at The Oldie. Free Sunday Arvo Show.

COLD IRONS BOUND:
Straddling the alternate tunings of Americana and the heart of a scruffy rock n roll bar band, well respected Melbourne four piece Cold Irons Bound recall the best distorted twang of the last 50 years. Think Tom Petty jamming with Teenage Fanclub.

Ostensibly hiding in plain sight other than to an astute few up to this point, the third Cold Irons Bound record, “No Place I Can’t Find You” shines a profound light on one of Australia's most melodic acts.

THE PECCADILLOES
This Naarm/Melbourne based quartet purvey keenly observed, wry tales of suburban bliss &/or frustration in a musical style spanning 90s garage/indie rock to Americana. Think Guided by Voices vs Mermaid Avenue era Wilco with a side serve of Sebadoh/Dinosaur Jr.

Guitarist/singer Paul Trigg (Stigg, Cassette, Letterbox Lambs) and drummer/singer Simon Braxton (Fur Patrol) have made music together on and off since the mid '90s. As of late 2020 they're joined by Derek Anderson (The Council, Ramblin' Gold) on bass, with Felix Potier (The ReChords, Maquina Peligrosa) joining on guitar and vocals in 2023.

POTLUCK - Launch + DOE EYES + THE PEARLIES

Join jangle-pop group Potluck as they launch their debut single “Thinking Too Much”!

Inspired by 60s and 70s rock, folk, and Melbourne dole wave, Potluck is made up of four singer-songwriters each bringing their own flavour. Like the name suggests, they’re diverse, casual, heartfelt, and full of charm. Expect vintage-leaning sounds, harmonies galore, and a lounge-room intimacy that’ll leave you grinning.

Kicking off the night are The Pearlies, a 60s revival band steeped in nostalgia. With jangly guitars, sweet harmonies, and plenty of groove, they’re sure to get the floor moving.

Next up is dreamy Doe Eyes, whose indie rock sound channels 70s psychedelia with a modern twist.  Blending retro textures with raw emotion, their songs will hit you right in the feels and get you dancing too.

HYLA + FAVOURED STATE + ARROWS OF DESIRE

Pulling influences from dream pop, garage and 90s psych, Hyla is a project formed by Alex Hayes, Rob Stephens and Michael Antonas who have played and toured extensively in bands such as Abbe May, Gum and The Silents over the last decade.

HYLA is an outfit reminiscent of 90's psych classics like Lush, the Jesus and Mary Chain and Stone Roses, with a taste of new wave influences such as the Church and the Go Betweens.

The result is a swirl of fuzzed out guitars, layered melodic vocals, and a sound that is at once fresh and nostalgic. The bands single  ‘Swam Out’ was well received around Australia and overseas, receiving Triple j play.

BABY COOL + ARBES + LAKE KELLY

After a year of performing solo, Baby Cool hits the road this July for a run of East Coast shows with the full band. Blending psych, folk and a touch of country, Grace Cuell (Nice Biscuit) brings her solo project to life with a rich lineup featuring Lisa Kelly (Lake Kelly) on harp, Sam Joseph and Kellie Murphy (Family Jordan) on pedal steel and keys, and rhythm section Nick Cavendish and Kurt Melvin (Nice Biscuit).

Following the release of her debut album Earthling on the Road to Self Love, Baby Cool has played UK festivals like The Great Escape and Wide Awake, and supported acts including King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Thee Sacred Souls, Allah Las, and Blonde Redhead.

These shows offer a rare chance to catch the full band in a small venue — don’t miss it.

THE DANDY BUZZKILLS (SA) + THE MUNDAYNES + THE TAKES + KEYO ROSE'S FLYING CIRCUS

Allo folks, git ready for a whhopin night of music at @theoldbar on Saturday night the 12th of July. Join Adelaide's @thedandybuzzkills to headline their first Melbourne show. With main support @themundaynes aswell as @thetakesmusic and @keyorosesflyingcircus . Make sure you don't miss out!

THE DANDY BUZZKILLS (ADELAIDE - MELBOURNE DEBUT)

Adelaide cult favourites The Dandy Buzzkills make their first-ever Melbourne appearance. Their sound is a warped blend of noise rock, art punk, and alternative rock, drawing comparisons to Boris and XTC. Known for chaotic, unpredictable live shows and a fiercely original debut EP (I Can Feed the Fish Earthworms), this is your chance to catch them before they explode.

THE MUNDAYNES (NAARM/MELBOURNE)

Post-punk meets new wave with high-voltage energy. The Mundaynes channel the angular rhythms of Shame, the theatricality of Talking Heads, and the moody pulse of early INXS. Their debut EP is out now and turning heads across the local scene.

THE TAKES (NAARM/MELBOURNE)

Indie rock with sharp hooks and vintage cool. The Takes blend the swagger of Arctic Monkeys, the melodic charm of The La’s, and the raw energy of Jet into something familiar, but completely their own.

KEYO ROSE’S FLYING CIRCUS (NAARM/MELBOURNE)

A true underground favourite. Keyo Rose’s Flying Circus bring a raw, riff-heavy rock'n'roll experience. It’s loud, it’s messy, it’s a hell of a good time.

THE MERGE + THE DUMS

Have you slaughtered your ideals without mercy?

Is that a new genre of thrashed and toothy estrangement that you feel?

Have you been howling at the dogs and barking at the wolves?

But of course, how natural. We have all been there. Yes, how perfectly normal.

Come on down to the Old Bar @theoldbar this Thursday 10 July to see dear compadres @thedumsarefolks.

Soak your bread in the oxygen-enriched blood oozing from our poorly cauterised wounds, so to speak.

Until then,
Be good.

The Merge.

SPACE JUNK - launch + SWEDISH MAGAZINES + ASSTEROID + THE NOWA NOWAS

Melbourne scuzz rock heavyweights SPACEJUNK are on tour this June and July in support of their long awaited third LP "JUNK TIME" available now through TUFF CUFF records.

JUNK TIME was created across the COVID winter and lost years of 2020-2023 – equal parts post hardcore fury and burn out riffage, JUNK TIME attempts to face the impending doom and gloom of the apocalypse but is driven to distraction by the minutiae of slow-moving traffic, frivolous scene politics, old kinds of kicks, irrational arachnophobia, hang-xiety induced paranoia and the final mindless descent.

Recorded and mixed by Max Ducker at Cellar sessions in Coburg (BATPISS, DEAD, LUNATIC, AFFORDABLE REPAYMENTS) and mastered in San Francisco by John Paul McBain (WELLWATER CONSPIRACY, MONSTER MAGNET, DESERT SESSIONS, QOTSA) JUNK TIME is SPACEJUNK’s strongest offering to date, featuring singles "Beard of Spiders", "Mud Drip" and "Traffic Sewer" the band continue to build upon their proto-punk framework and push out into wider sonic textures and deep space claustrophobia.

The JUNK TIME album launch tour makes a stop at the jewel in Fitzroy’s crown The Old Bar along with action rock’n’rollers SWEDISH MAGAZINES, nostalgic alt-rock ASSTEROID and new garage rock supergroup THE NOWA NOWAS play their first ever show.

FREE ENTRY ARVO SHOW w/ THE MEAN TIMES - launch + BORN SECRET

The Mean Times cordially invite you to their descent into Hell - the new single from their upcoming album 'Feel More Dumb', out September via Golden Robot Records. Your reckoning will take place at The Old Bar on Saturday, 5 July 2025, assuming civilisation holds until then.

A garage-pop, post-punk panic attack masquerading as a good time, Hell is part sermon, part sleaze, and fully off its medication. There are euphemisms. There are hips thrusting. There is very little moral clarity.

It’s the sound of a breakdown having a breakdown, propped up by a rhythm section that hits like a stolen shopping trolley careening down hill.

Born Secret will be joining the fray, and frankly, should know better.

Free entry
Doors open at 3PM.
Born Secret at 4PM
The Mean Times at 5PM

BOYSNLOVE - launch + POSTURES + MIA LUCY

To celebrate the release of their singleLove It All (Out June 20), BoysnLove play The Old Bar on July 3 with support from Postures and Mia Lucy.

Self-produced and recorded between Cactus Room in Thornbury and the band’s own DIY home studio,Love It Allis a slow-burning confessional—delicate and raw, but pulsing with quiet power. Led by Annie Rose Collis’ compelling vocal performance, the track explores the complexity of loving someonenot despite their flaws, but because of them—and the emotional clarity that can come from sitting with the mess.“You still can’t look me in the eye for too long / Cos you know I’d crawl inside and love it all,” sings Collis—a lyric that lands like a confession and a dare. Blending ‘90s alt-rock grit with a dusky Americana warmth, BoysnLove continue to hone their soundwith fierce intimacy and unfiltered emotion. Since the release of their debut album Just Desserts, theband has built a reputation for emotionally charged live shows and unforgettable songwriting, sharingstages with Middle Kids, Nadia Reid, and Phantastic Ferniture.
