Exhibition statement:
‘Walk With Me in Hell!’ showcases works by Naarm artists Angelina Innocent, Diva Scum, K.D Hilton, and UglyAlienSpitBaby. These artists collectively explore and celebrate queerness, the body and sex-positivity, while playfully dismantling heteronormative and patriarchal ideals within Western society. The exhibited works challenge oppressive binary structures through humorous subversion, allowing for discourse around gender and sexuality as dynamic concepts that help inform identity. Across the mediums of photography, sculpture, print, and installation, the artists speak to the performative nature of gender and signify the everpresent importance of queer representation. ‘Walk With Me in Hell!’ is for all the queers, punks, outcasts and countercultural folks who feel underrepresented in the art around them. These artists share their lived experiences in hopes that others will feel heard and empowered to share their own.
This exhibition will be open 3pm – 8pm every day until August.
