BIG SCARY INDIAN (USA) + THE MAGGIE PILLS + DOPPLERHAUS + THE GENEVIEVES
BIG SCARY INDIAN
Uncategorizable American DIY rippers BIG SCARY INDIAN don’t do anything in half measures, so it only makes sense that they’re making their overseas debut on the other side of the world. After taking their maximal blend of math-psych-prog-post-rock on the road for a 35 show blitz across the US in 2024, they’re keeping the heat on with a brand new EP “Road To Wrath” and an Australian tour. Sure to be an absolute barn burner.

GREAT FALLS + EMMA SHIELDS + COLD OPEN
Noise delivery service, now accepting tips. The Old Bar, August 14.
On the bill are our longtime loves Emma Shields and Cold Open – bands we grew up with, cut our teeth beside and shared crusty gear with. Honestly, it’s less of a gig and more a glorified group hang (but with lots of power chords and capos). There’ll be loud bits, soft bits, probably some amps that don't cooperate, a chaotic musical family reunion.
Come hang, bring some mates. Most importantly, bring your best Thursday feelings.

RAMONA SKY - launch + MUNCHY DOLPHIN + CAMOMILE
Blending raw alt-rock energy with a sharp modern edge, Melbourne based quartet Ramona Sky are bringing their high-energy live show to The Old Bar on 15th August to celebrate the release of their new single 'Go'. Joined by genre-blending rockers Munchy Dolphin & shoegaze band Camomile.

'REMEMBERING THE KING - A DATE WITH ELVIS AT THE OLD BAR' W/ THE ELVIS BIG BAND + THE DILAPIDATED DIVA + DANCING BEAR + FORCED CONTRACT + PEANUT BUTTER + BANANA BACON SANDWICH
Remembering The King - A Date With Elvis at The Old Bar
On the 48th anniversary of the day that many people believe ELVIS PRESLEY left the building for the last time, we will be paying tribute to his musical, cultural and spiritual legacy with a P-A-R-T-Y like no other. Bringing together lunatics, professional performers, those who are both, and everyone in between. We’ve gathered the cream and the crop in Elvis-related variety entertainment to give Melbourne one more chance to revel in the glory of The King!
THE ELVIS BIG BAND - Australia’s premier Elvis tribute show rock and rolls into town, ready for a little more action. Their spectacular musicianship and showmanship regularly fill much bigger venues, so get your tickets now or never. An ever-so-slightly smaller big band to fit The Old Bar stage, but missing none of its burning fire!
THE DILAPIDATED DIVA - Chanteuse cabaret overload from the edge of reality. Award winning and hot off a Comedy Festival stint, The Diva is true Fitzroyalty. Not only will she entertain with song, she will also rule the mic as MC. Get ready for The Dilapidated Diva's Pelvis... for Elvis!
DANCING BEAR - When renowned sculptor and performer Dean Smith Dancing Bear gets his mojo working, you’ll be all shook up. Whether wielding a chainsaw or a guitar, this big hunk o’ love is a spinout!
FORCED CONTRACT - Good rockin' and mess of blues from Atticus Stoneking. Let yourself go!
PEANUT BUTTER AND BANANA BACON SANDWICH - Young, loud, shakin’ and bacon. Catch ‘em before they leave the building!

LITURGY (USA) + KILAT + CAUSTIC GRIP
Liturgy is the project of Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix, whose yearning, energetic “transcendental black metal” exists in the space between metal, art music and sacred ritual. Its current lineup includes Mario Miron (guitar), Tia Vincent-Clark (bass) and Leo Didkovsky (drums). Celebrated for their fusion of sincere emotion, compositional complexity, stylistic daring and intense live energy, the band is simultaneously a medium and platform for drama and theology. It was founded in the context of Brooklyn DIY as a solo project by Hunt-Hendrix in 2005 while she was studying philosophy and classical composition at Columbia. In 2009 Hunt-Hendrix stimulated fervent conversation in the music world with her text “Transcendental Black Metal”, and after expanding to a quartet they made waves globally with their 2011 sophomore album Aesthethica for fusing black metal with math rock and infusing the form with a counterintuitively loving, emotional energy. Their ambitious 2015 album The Ark Work was controversial for its incorporation of IDM and trap production into their musical language. In fall 2019 they solidified this sound world with their highly acclaimed fourth studio album H.A.Q.Q., which is tied to an ongoing philosophical YouTube lecture series. Their fifth studio album, an opera entitled Origin of the Alimonies, was released in November 2020, recorded with an eight-piece chamber ensemble and performed at Roadburn festival in 2021 as the live score to an eponymous film created by Hunt-Hendrix. After a solo sculpture exhibition in 2022, the album 93696 was released in 2023 followed by an extensive world tour.
“Liturgy have always brought a proggy, sprawling ambition to their music, but rarely have all the pieces locked into place so elegantly. 93696 can be pulverizing, but it’s also gentle, and amid the brutality lie some of Hunt-Hendrix’s prettiest and most ornate songs yet… Listening to [Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix’s] band in full command of its sound, weaving between passages of chaotic release and delicate beauty, it sounds as if Liturgy have finally found some kind of promised land.” - Pitchfork
"the ambition and creative aesthetics that Hendrix brings to the table through Liturgy continue to be something to behold" - The Needle Drop
“One of the year's most unique and inspiring metal releases.” - Exclaim, best albums of 2023

GIANT HAMMER + FINE MOTOR + JACK HAWLEY
Giant Hammer is an Eora/Sydney-based rock band. Working towards a sound that is loud and literate, the group’s five members each bring their distinct voice and flavour to the band. The songs are sweet and sour, bouncing between twee, Go-Betweens-adjacent numbers and dirty rockers a la Sonic Youth or Fugazi. Their newest single, Three Tulips / Argonauts, sits on the gentler side of their catalogue, and marks their first release with new members Lewis Mosley and August Graham.

SOPHISTICATED DINGO - launch + SELF TALK + BARR NUN
Sophisticated Dingo hit the road in August to bring their new EP ‘Other Kid’ to life in bandrooms across Australia!
Off the back of relentless touring with JET, Polish Club, The Terrys, Beddy Rays, Press Club and Dear Seattle, the road-worn Sophisticated Dingo share their new EP ‘Other Kid’. A collection of songs that shout an examination of the dismal existence of modern everyday life.
The release features singles ‘Feels Like Woah’ and ‘Mess Me Around’ and follows on from much revered past releases in ‘Radio On’ and ‘Morning View’.
Sophisticated Dingo is a Garage Rock duo from Melbourne, Australia. Friends since adolescence Jimmy and Lew write songs that are a punch in the face you can relate to.

DILEMMAS + THE HYBERNATORS + BODIES CAPTAIN BEEPBOOP
Dilemmas- our local post-punk art-rock darlings return to the warm & dark womb of the Old Bar! For their first headline of 2025, Dilemmas will showcase a set of their unreleased songs that move the through slow-building dynamics and driving, energetic intensity. Often combining their own sculptural artwork into their headline shows, this will be one not to miss.
Joining Dilemmas, are the tightly coiled and high-strung punk rockers- Hybernators, with a horn section, brand new songs and a penchant for havoc & hilarious antics.
Three piece punk powerhouse Bodies will bring blood to boiling point, and straight off the back of an Old Bar residency for a saturday evening to celebrate: Captain Beep-Boop, playing anything & everything they can expertly manufacture into an instrument- will open the night and heat up the dance floor playing new tunes!
This will be a night of good friends & fun, and a delightful assortment of whats to come from some of the most creative artists of our local Fitzroy scene.

CARP FACTORY - launch + STRAY DOGS FOR GOOD HOMES + MILK AFTER SEX
After a long hard day grinding Carp flesh into liquid fertiliser, there’s only one reprieve, fishing.
But what does one do when, like a spectre breathing down your neck, you can only reel in what you were once crushing, Carp?
One answer. Catch and Kill.
The Carp Factory will play their brand new award eligible album of the same name in full for the first time at the Old Bar on August 2.
And they’ve called in the big guns to assist with this momentous task.
Stray Dogs to Good Homes and Milk After Sex, two bands with names as long as their songs are rock, will bring you to musical Shangri-La on Johnston St.

WINKSY + TALL JUAN (USA) + BILLIAM
Come and see Winksy as they hit the Old Bar stage for their first headliner of the year! Joining the festivities is their New York pal Tall Juan, making his debut solo appearance in Australia, alongside Melbourne’s egg punk darling Billiam.
Winksy’s infatuation with music is more than mere admiration; it's a voracious obsession that ignites their creative spirit. Winksy weaves a musical tapestry that speaks to the human experience, their musical style combining the influence of their 60's pop/rock idols with a unique touch of quirky, lyric driven songs that attempt to grapple with the subject of what it means to be human. The timeless quality of their music could be described, in its essence, as pop essentialism mixed with vintage revivalism.
In San Antonio de Padua, Buenos Aires, Argentina, a six-year-old boy picks up an electric guitar for the first time. He feels the sharp steel strings and smells the wood while playing his first chords. He eventually leaves his hometown for New York City, ending up in
Rockaway Beach, Queens. Juan Zaballa becomes Tall Juan and begins his music career with the support of his New York friends, releasing albums that reflect his personal growth and experiences. His first album, 'Olden Goldies', reflects his English language learning journey and pays homage to his early punk music influences. His latest release, 'Raccoon Nights', showcases his evolution as a musician and producer, exploring psychedelic-pop with a blend of synthesizers and new wave overtones.
Billiam is a bullet train that's flying straight off the tracks straight into a loop de loop that's both on fire and underwater. He’s been putting out a slew of LPs, 7 inches and Cassettes since 2020 that mash equal parts 80s New Wave, Lo-Fidelity Power Pop and head splitting Punk into a bloodstain on the wall shaped like Bugs Bunny

HYLA + FAVOURED STATE + ARROWS OF DESIRE
Pulling influences from dream pop, garage and 90s psych, Hyla is a project formed by Alex Hayes, Rob Stephens and Michael Antonas who have played and toured extensively in bands such as Abbe May, Gum and The Silents over the last decade.
HYLA is an outfit reminiscent of 90's psych classics like Lush, the Jesus and Mary Chain and Stone Roses, with a taste of new wave influences such as the Church and the Go Betweens.
The result is a swirl of fuzzed out guitars, layered melodic vocals, and a sound that is at once fresh and nostalgic. The bands single ‘Swam Out’ was well received around Australia and overseas, receiving Triple j play.

POTLUCK - Launch + DOE EYES + THE PEARLIES
Join jangle-pop group Potluck as they launch their debut single “Thinking Too Much”!
Inspired by 60s and 70s rock, folk, and Melbourne dole wave, Potluck is made up of four singer-songwriters each bringing their own flavour. Like the name suggests, they’re diverse, casual, heartfelt, and full of charm. Expect vintage-leaning sounds, harmonies galore, and a lounge-room intimacy that’ll leave you grinning.
Kicking off the night are The Pearlies, a 60s revival band steeped in nostalgia. With jangly guitars, sweet harmonies, and plenty of groove, they’re sure to get the floor moving.
Next up is dreamy Doe Eyes, whose indie rock sound channels 70s psychedelia with a modern twist. Blending retro textures with raw emotion, their songs will hit you right in the feels and get you dancing too.

FREE ENTRY ARVO SHOW w/ COLD IRONS BOUND + THE PECCADILLOS
CIB & Peccs back at The Oldie. Free Sunday Arvo Show.
COLD IRONS BOUND:
Straddling the alternate tunings of Americana and the heart of a scruffy rock n roll bar band, well respected Melbourne four piece Cold Irons Bound recall the best distorted twang of the last 50 years. Think Tom Petty jamming with Teenage Fanclub.
Ostensibly hiding in plain sight other than to an astute few up to this point, the third Cold Irons Bound record, “No Place I Can’t Find You” shines a profound light on one of Australia's most melodic acts.
THE PECCADILLOES
This Naarm/Melbourne based quartet purvey keenly observed, wry tales of suburban bliss &/or frustration in a musical style spanning 90s garage/indie rock to Americana. Think Guided by Voices vs Mermaid Avenue era Wilco with a side serve of Sebadoh/Dinosaur Jr.
Guitarist/singer Paul Trigg (Stigg, Cassette, Letterbox Lambs) and drummer/singer Simon Braxton (Fur Patrol) have made music together on and off since the mid '90s. As of late 2020 they're joined by Derek Anderson (The Council, Ramblin' Gold) on bass, with Felix Potier (The ReChords, Maquina Peligrosa) joining on guitar and vocals in 2023.

CASH SAVAGE (SOLO) + OUR CARLSON + CCTV
Cash Savage / CCTV / Our Carlson
Live At The Old Bar
“You could hear a pin drop for the entire set, as Cash had the crowd in the palm of her hand for over an hour” (Scenestr, 2024)
Cash Savage returns to her spiritual homeland The Old bar for a one off intimate solo show before heading to Europe.
Hand-picking songs from her 15-year back catalogue, Savage, alone with a guitar, will reveal original versions of the songs usually belted out by 7-piece band Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, one of the most revered live acts in Australia today.
A magnetic performer and one of Australia’s greatest songwriters, Savage delivers hard truths about love, relationships, political disorder, and the chaos of the human mind, with a sense of humour and connection that captures crowds to the very last line.
Prepare for a cathartic, communal experience that refuses to give the audience an easy ethical bypass, but challenges listeners to ask themselves the hard questions and step up.
This is a performance not to be missed.
Cash Savage & The Last Drinks
‘One of the most powerful bands in the country… you won’t hear much that’s better than this’
The Guardian
‘A fucking spectacular live phenomenon’
