MASAMI KAWAGUCHI & KIM SALMON + SARITA McHARG + POLLY FONIK (The Miffs)
"When legendary Japanese guitarist Masami Kawaguchi and seminal underground Australian artist Kim Salmon came together to collaborate, neither was sure of the direction which they would take.
With equal parts carefree attitude and punk aesthetic, these two guitarists allowed each of their playing styles to overlap and intertwine in a way that neither had quite experienced before.
This became an experience of pure musical communication where the language was not Japanese or English but the notes, chords and tones of their six string instruments.
The result is four pieces of unique, spontaneous composition, performed once only, recorded and now presented for aural digestion on a very short run of coloured vinyl.
Masami and Kim will launch this LP with a one-off show together during Masami's Australian New Rock Syndicate tour:"

USER - launch + HARRY HOWARD PRESENTS SLIGHT PAVILLIONS + LONG HOURS
AN EVENT NOT TO BE MISSED!!!
USER - ALBUM LAUNCH.
USER are a DIY force. They create a sound inspired by electronic, post punk and goth pop soundtracks.
USER retain creative control of their music from inception, recording, mixing and creating their always unique one off vinyl covers.
USER are touring their third album “MIRA IMPOSTA” around Australia featuring 150 different album covers with 3 different vinyl colour variants using upcycled materials.
MIRA IMPOSTA digs deep into the collective USER minds reflecting on an untimely 2am loss, romantic death marches, how far you can take your hate, sexy spy thrillers and the worship of the late David Lynch.
Their live shows are sonically and visually spectacular.
Once described by a punter as “Imagine Portishead being whipped by Trent Reznor (NIN), that’s what you get with USER”.
HARRY HOWARD PRESENTS SLIGHT PAVILIONS….
Harry Howard (best known for Harry Howard & the NDE, These Immortal Souls, and Crime and the City Solution) released his first solo LP Harry Howard presents Slight Pavilions in 2023.

LONGHOURS….
Long Hours is a solo performance project by artist and musician Julian Medor. Frequently coined as Lo-fi, no wave, synth punk, croon core or goth doo-wop, Long Hours’ live show is an impactful, frenetic experience inspired by frontmen such as David Yow (The Jesus Lizard), JG Thirlwell (Foetus) and Alan Vega (Suicide).
Long Hours has performed up and down the east coast of Australia, has toured Japan four times and completed three European tours since 2023 playing over 80 shows across France, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Italy and Austria.

Four songs were released as singles ahead of the album's release: God Mode, Dance The Evil, Lick, and Well of Wishes. Drawing from personal experiences, Society of Beggars delves into themes of grief, self-destruction, and emotional turmoil, all while maintaining the raw humanity that defines their sound.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY EVE: MIRROR CLIPPERS - launch + KILL BELL + MILKSICK + HONEYBONE
MIRROR CLIPPERS - TULLAMARINE SINGLE LAUNCH
Preston based two piece rock band MIRROR CLIPPERS will be launching their second single TULLAMARINE from their unreleased self-titled debut LP at THE OLD BAR, 74-76 Johnston St, Fitzroy on GOOD FRIDAY EVE!
THURSDAY 17th of APRIL 2025 with supports from HONEYBONE + MILKSICK + KILL BELL
$10 + BF presale / $15 tickets on the door
The new Mirror Clippers post punk single TULLAMARINE is about connection diluted by technology.
MIRROR CLIPPERS - Inspired by bands such as Beak> and Thee Oh Sees, genre defying two-piece power psych rock band from Preston, Mirror Clippers feature Daniel Brates on drums and SiB on Gass, a hybrid guitar-bass. Creating sonic waves never heard before, together, Daniel and SiB have given birth to a unique sounding band that will transport you surfing way beyond the stars above.
HONEYBONE - Honeybone are a NZ-born, Naarm based Psych/Garage-Rock trio. Blending elements of Doom & prog into their staunchly sleazy psych rock, the trio create a larger than life sound with walls of echoing fuzz, dual vocals and thundering drums.
MILKSICK - Naarm/Melbourne-based noise pink losers MILKSICK are doom preaching on a soap box, stirring up a cauldron of screaming, angular guitars and moody, dread-tinted rhythms. Bursting onto Melbourne's underground punk scene in 2023 the band has since been rattling windows in the stickiest of venues alongside the likes of local legends Batpiss, The Maggie Pills and Black Bats.
KILL BELL - KILL BELL is a grungy post-punk force that formed in 2019, inspired by the unapologetic spirit of 90s Riot Grrrls and the crunchy guitar tones of 80s rock. Since then, they’ve released two critically acclaimed albums and earned a reputation for their captivating live shows. Sharing stages with acts like Johnny Hunter, Moaning Lisa, and RVG, KILL BELL continues to enthral audiences with their fierce sound and relentless energy.

BENCH PRESS - FINAL SHOW w/ PROPAINE + HOOPER CRESCENT + AQUATICO
Bench Press are calling it quits. That's it, there isn't anymore. They ain't going out at their peak, nor at their lowest, but at a nice mid point - all good things must come to an end.
Bench Press have always been all heart, all energy, all passion, all intensity, all the time. That's been pretty evident across their three albums, two 7"s, two NZ tours, one tour of Europe, a bunch of Australian tours, one thousand Melbourne shows and a gazillion KMs of pacing.
Join them for their two last shows at The Old Bar on March 21 and 29. Spread over two weekends so they can blow their voices out. Go hard or go home.
This isn't going to be sad, it's a celebration.
This isn't going to be sad, it'll be loud.
This isn't going to be sad, it'll be cathartic.
This isn't going to be sad, it's going to be sweet.
This is definitely going to be sad.

MOTOR INN + DOGGEREL + HELL JONES
The MotorInn will hit the Old Bar stage for one last time with their current lineup on March 28 amidst a night of Throttle/Blues/and Desert Rock, via the stylings of close friends, Doggerel, and Hell Jones. Opening the evening will be the unrelenting heavy-highway grooves of Hell Jones, bringing their beefy desert rock guitar riffs to rattle the ol’ but sturdy walls of Old Bar once more. Sandwiched in the middle (where the best bit of the sandwich generally is) are Doggerel, who through the tireless workings of Kier Stevens on the Dobra will traipse through the blues spectrum with the backing of his full band - a rhythm section to melt your face off, and a thumping sax with notes and notes for days. Lastly, the MotorInn play their last show with its current lineup, as its petrol powered front-ended Baritone and Guitar section sadly farewells its low-end and batterie before it takes a small hiatus to get its engine retuned. The retro ‘Throttle Rock’ noise of the MotorInn is like a cruising, bullish-hoard of Triumph Motorcycles … that is, disliked by the sneering high-nosed, puffin faced, pince-nez wearing cafe lot … in other words, Throttle Rock for the people, the people for Throttle Rock. Good talk.

FIRM FILTERS + MUNROE + TOU-CAN
Firm Filters return to celebrate the release of their debut single ‘Lyin’ On The Floor’ (releasing Friday 28 March). Joining them on the lineup is alt-folk legends Munroe and indie/psych/soul-ers Tou-Can. Doors at 7:30pm. $15 entry.

Join Marbled Eye as the hunt for the best pint of Guinness that Australia has to offer! Will it be at the Old Bar? They will also be playing a gig and that’s worth the price of admission ($15) in itself!
They’ll be joined by Silicone Prairie & Screensaver, two great local acts! I’m not sure if either of those bands like Guinness too, but maybe you could ask them? It’s always hard to find something to talk to your favourite band about, you know like when you wanna go up and say gday after their set and all you can think to say is “great show”? Now you’ve got something else to talk about!
Be there!
