GLASSHIVES + GREAT AUSTRALIAN BANK + GREVILLEA HEDGE
Melbourne indie rockers Glasshives return to the Old Bar to celebrate the release of their debut single, "Overloading", the first single from their forthcoming album.
Fusing cutting riffs, punchy lead lines and psychedelic grooves, Glasshives channel the spirit of 90s favourites like Pavement, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Pixies while forging a sound distinctly their own. Don't miss an electric night marking the beginning of a new chapter for one of Melbourne's exciting emerging bands, joined by special guests Great Australian Bank and Grevillea Hedge.
SOY - launch + MEDA PUZZLE + DRAGNET + EQUESTRIAN FIELDS
SOY are a six-piece rock band based in Newcastle, NSW, blending psych textures with punk energy into chaotic, immersive live shows that have become their trademark.
Formed in 2016, SOY went on to establish New Brain Communications — a DIY label created alongside bandmates from FUNGAS — contributing to Newcastle’s underground music community through releases and live events.
SOY have supported the likes of ORB and The Murlocs, and shared festival stages with acts such as TNSW and DMA’s across NSW and the east coast.
Their upcoming LP marks a new chapter, following recent singles “Expired Plead” and “The Other End”, which hint at a more refined and expansive direction for the band. After some time away, SOY are set to return to Victoria, bringing a fresh batch of material to town.
CLOSURE IN MOSCOW + GOING SWIMMING + ELECTRIC SELF
DELETE JARS OR GET STUFFED.
We’re about to embark on a special world tour! It’s a one-night-only hometown belter at The Old Bar on July 4 with our friends Going Swimming and Electric Self.
This show also marks the first official outing for our touring guitarist, Alexander, who’ll be joining us for our upcoming US run.
Manny has a few things demanding his attention in the real world right now, so while he’s off tending to the side quests life is throwing his way, Alex has graciously agreed to step into the blast zone.
If you know his work in Gatherer, you’ll already know he’s an absolute lord of the riff stick. If you don’t, get on that shit and hear why he’s a most worthy combatant.
Come down and help us give him the live-fire initiation treatment. Shower him with praise and adoration for diligently wrapping his brain-sack around the songs. Shout him a VB and ask him “Why do the legends refer to you as doctor culo?”
Saturday, July 4
The Old Bar, Fitzroy

MÁQUINA PELIGROSA:
After destroying the stage at the launch of issue #2, the thumping three-piece sling a high-impact blend of psychedelic mutant garage with surf and punk overtones. Their name is Spanish for “Dangerous Machine” and true to their name - they bring sweat-drenched energy, razor-sharp swagger and butt shaking tunes.
The band have released 4 singles on 7" vinyl, hosted sold out release parties, and are built for the live stage. Look out for more releases later in the year!
Maquina Linktree: https://linktr.ee/maquina_peligrosa
Pussy Horse is primitive and mean, like a 70’s exploitation movie. They combine chainsaw twang, foot stomping drums and vocal deliverance like a shotgun blast to the head. They’re loud and that’s the way they like it.
The Hybernators are frenzied Punk Rock four Piece from Melbourne they dance in a wild current of Bourbon Drinking Squids, Pirates of the Sunshine Sea and like to cut your limbs into mini dim sims "The Hybernators drip sweat, sex, blood and havoc" . "They take their audience an enjoyable , yet unsettling ride into their soul" .
Diddy Wah is a record slinger diving deep into the savage sounds of rhythm’n’blues, garage’n’soul and good ol’ rock’n’roll.

It's hard to believe but it's been more than twenty years since their first legendary vodka-soaked Wednesday night residencies at the Old Bar. VulgarGrad gigs are increasingly rare these days, so if you need a fix of Soviet prison songs or Odessa street thief anthems, then don't miss this one.

BEASTWARS (NZ) + MAMMON’S THRONE + BODIES
“To describe Beastwars live show in any certain terms would be doing them an injustice, as it is an experience that needs to be lived out to fully appreciate it.” TONE DEAF
Wellington sludge-psych metallers Beastwars have been tearing up stages in New Zealand and Australia since 2008. With 5 internationally acclaimed albums under their belts they have a reputation for delivering intense and visceral live performances. The group abide by one steadfast maxim: Obey the Riff. Described as “a mongrel mix of Kyuss, Neurosis, and the mighty Godflesh...” (NZ Herald) and playing “heavy tunes for heavy times” (ALARM), the Wellington-based sonic soothsayers utilise the chaos that engulfs our world as ammunition for their defiant howls into the abyss.
“The level of power projected by Beastwars was unfathomable... something you’d expect from an encore-demanding stadium crowd... I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a crowd lose their minds in such a manner.” - BEAT MAGAZINE
“Beastwars melds hulking doom and sludge metal with earth-quaking noise rock […] Their live prowess is downright legendary.” NOISEY
With special guests MAMMON’S THRONE + BODIES
