Collage works is an exploration of colour, form, and the tangibility of photographs.
Conceived during Melbourne COVID lockdowns, the lack of funds and access to different mediums led me to explore home-use inkjet printers within my practice. The limitations in resolution and quality of my printed media allowed me to place my focus passed the subject of the image and to explore colour, texture, destruction, and consequential repair.
Through saturated colour fields and collage techniques, this series asks the viewer to explore their own connections with the work and how abstraction can suggest ideas of relationships, emotion, damage, and healing. Inspired by the works of Mark Rothko and other mid-century artists, this project explores the connection between abstract expressionism and photography.
Also included within this exhibition are works created by the artist for previously released album and singles from local band Aunty Blue. Incorporating a similar style, these works include featured album art as well as the those found on the cutting room floor.
