The Witching Hour an exhibition by Chelsea Pountney
“The Witching Hour” exhibition will explore female archetypes through the lens of occult and esoteric symbology, and reference historical and political institutions, such as the Catholic Church that have and continue to demonise women and their power.
Chelsea’s work attempts to reclaim women's sexuality, power, femininity and celebrates labels such as 'witch' and the 'dark feminine'. The style of work references old etchings, the Renaissance and its female figures and esoteric/ mythological story telling. The mix of historical references with contemporary undertones is a juxtaposition that Chelsea aims to embrace throughout her practice.
