NEW DATE: Thursday 1 July xoxo
Fresh off the heels of a five show string of album launches in so-called Melbourne, Castlemaine, Werribee, and Sydney, June Jones is back for an intimate affair at the Old Bar in Fitzroy. The singer/multi-instrumentalist/producer released her second solo album, Leafcutter, in February this year. On Leafcutter, Jones draws inspiration from artists like Björk, Kate Bush, Anohni, and The Knife, as well as speculative fiction writers like Ursula Le Guin and NK Jemisin. The album, which resembles a collection of short stories whose narrator is at once despairing and hopeful, received album of the week from 3RRR (VIC), FBi Radio (NSW), 4ZZZ (QLD), and Edge Radio (TAS).
Opening the show is Dark Water, a three piece synthwave band based in Narrm. Formed in 2018, they have mesmerised Melbourne audiences with their blend of mournful synth pop, evocative of 80s nostalgia. They’ve played alongside great local talents including RVG, Bitumen, Habits and HEXDEBT, and supported the legendary DAF at Melbourne Music Week. With wistful melodies underpinned by a hypnotic rhythm section and driving bass, Dark Water is set to shatter everyone’s hearts with their sorrowful and emotive power. Their debut album composed on the Town Hall grand organ is forthcoming.
Tickets will be $15 on the door - no presales
The Old Bar is not wheelchair accessible. There is one small step at the front entrance and one small step in the middle of the room.
