The Darkest Night group exhibition

Due to continued restrictions in Melbourne this event is now being held on Tuesday 24th August! Even though winter solstice will have come and gone, the weather will still be crisp and our sentiments the same!

Winter solstice (“the sun standing still”) marks the darkest and longest night of the winter season. The solstice is a solar event that symbolizes life, death and rebirth and is often celebrated by feasting, lighting fires, and of course a Yule log. Come celebrate this year’s winter solstice ( a month late) at our group exhibition “The Darkest Night”, opening Tuesday 24th August!

The Old Bar Gallery is proud to present works by over 40 local and interstate artists, inspired by this night and its vast symbolism. Opening night will be something incredibly special and will warm your eyes, ears and bones – there will be a special “feast” prepared by Melbourne’s spooky prop duo the Grimm Sisters, a warm roaring fire, and live music by Dowser and SheOak. The Old Bar will also be serving its famous mulled wine (appropriately warmed in a large cauldron).

Small businesses, artists and musicians have been greatly impacted in the past year, and this last lockdown has been extra hard on us. If you are able, please come and support this array of talented creators on opening night!

Doors 7pm
Bands from 8pm
$15 entry fee

This event is sponsored by our friends and supporters of the arts, Bodriggy Brewing company. The exhibition will be open 3pm – 8pm every day until August 2.

The Old Bar Gallery acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which The Old Bar resides. The gallery pays its respect to Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
