“MAKING SPACE” IWD 23 Group Exhibition

“MAKING SPACE” is a group exhibition that explores the United Nations theme for this years International Women’s Day: “Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender equal future”. The Old Bar Gallery has chosen to interpret this theme through the role of intersectional feminism without conforming to traditional gender binaries. All artists involved are passionate about making spaces that challenge marginalisation.

 Artworks fuse together intersectional power with themes of technology, robotics, science, medicine, education, sci-fi, futurism, retro-futurism, space etc.

 Artists include:

Rachael Anger, Isabeau Marielle, Paige Wang, Sheri Morte, Tammy Leigh, Betty Musgrove, Brija Davis, erincox, Bianca Johnston, Lily O’Connell, Wen Chen, Mare Asi, Elli Hales, Mikelle Miller, Heather Fuhrer, Ally Moylan, Selen Nazmiye Bilal, Gabriella Adams, Heidi Smith, Chloe Metcalf & Clunk , Sabahat Khan, Grae Burnished, Scary Moonchild, Laura Alice, Claudia Ridgway, Rochelle Morris

 Joining the artists on opening night are bands Ere Lo and Loni Thompson!

 A portion of proceeds from this event will be going to CARE, an organisation dedicated to helping fight and put an end to gender inequality and poverty. CARE is currently on ground in Turkey and Syria, delivering essential supplies and helping find shelter and aid to those affected by the devastating earthquake.

This event is sponsored by our friends and supporters of the arts, Mountain Goat brewing. The exhibition will be open 3pm – 8pm every day until March 20.

 The Old Bar Gallery acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which The Old Bar resides. The gallery pays its respect to Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledges that sovereignty has never been ceded.
